It all began on a humid September morning in 2024. The halls of KJ Somaiya College of Engineering, Vidyavihar, were abuzz with anticipation. The Internal Hackathon was more than just an event; it was a launchpad for ideas, a test of grit, and an opportunity to step into the unknown. Among the eager participants was our team, Silk Road – a group of six students with a shared vision and an unshakable determination to create something impactful.
We walked in with a spark of an idea and walked out as one of the Top 25 teams. That moment was electric. It wasn't just validation; it was a challenge to prove ourselves in a larger arena. With every brainstorming session, late-night debug, and eureka moment, our idea began to take shape. But none of us could have predicted just how transformative this journey would become.
The Problem That Became Our Purpose
The problem statement, SIH 1627: Drug Inventory and Supply Chain Management, wasn't merely a technical challenge. It was a doorway into a world fraught with inefficiencies and critical gaps. As we delved into the nuances of drug supply chains, we uncovered the alarming implications of delays, wastage, and poor tracking. This wasn't just about technology; it was about saving lives and building trust.
A Moment of Validation
November 11th, 2024. The day our hearts raced faster than ever before. The finalists for the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2024 were announced, and there it was: Team Silk Road, listed among the Top 5 for our problem statement. Out of 395 submissions, our idea had stood out. The elation was indescribable.
The Grand Finale: A Stage Like No Other
The SIH 2024 Grand Finale, hosted by Sri Sairam Engineering College, was a spectacle. The hackathon began with the drop of a clock. 36 hours of relentless focus, boundless energy, and unyielding teamwork. We weren't just coding; we were sculpting an idea into reality, piece by piece.
The Solution That Emerged
Our final product included:
- Role-Based Access Control: Ensuring security and efficiency
- Real-Time Tracking: Leveraging IoT and GPS
- Reverse Supply Chain Management: Tackling medicine disposal
- AI-Powered Inventory Optimization: Using machine learning algorithms

For me, this journey was nothing short of transformative. From struggling with basic web development in my first year to building a Web3-based platform in my second, the growth has been staggering.

Though we didn’t win the Grand Finale, we walked away with something far more valuable: a renewed sense of purpose and a treasure trove of experiences. We discovered that innovation is not about accolades but about creating impact. It’s about dreaming audaciously, learning relentlessly, and growing through every challenge.
As I reflect on this journey, I’m overwhelmed by gratitude. Gratitude for getting selected in the Top 5 teams and going to Chennai to have a chance to experience this opportunity of a lifetime! And most importantly, gratitude for my incredible teammates – Aakanksha Singh, Aditi Kanagala, Amrit Nigam, Mihir Phalke, and Shreyans Tatiya – who made this journey unforgettable.
The SIH 2024 journey might have ended, but its impact will echo in our lives for years to come. Here's to chasing dreams, embracing challenges, and building a future filled with endless possibilities.
